2008 — An Ugly Season

Hello Again:

2008 was an ugly season for the most part.  The first week in the 2008 league was really pretty good — a 55.   After that, it was terrible.  I shot in the 60’s every single week.  Looking back on it, there were some very interesting things that happened that season.  First, there were the new clubs I got for Christmas 2007.  Wilson prostaffs.  Then there was the 20 lbs weight loss.  For some reason, that really affected my swing mechanics and I could not get it figured out.  I did make one good change about the end of the year.  I had the driver shortened to 43 inches and that seemed to help.  Well, 2009 has to be better.

55 the first week and other musings

Hello Folks:

I shot a 55 on the front nine at Thornapple.  The course was wet and played rather long.  I had one par on the day.  The forecast is calling for rain tomorrow.

This week is Masters week.  Tiger is of course the favorite this week.  Reports from Augusta National is the course is wet and playing long.

April 2, 2008 The league begins — Again

Hello Gang:

For those of you who are not golfers, this may come as a suprise but the golf league begins on April 2, 2008 if the weather cooperates.  We will return to Thornaplle Country Club for the 3rd year for what I like to call the “Tour”. Each week we will play 9 holes rotating from the front nine to the back nine on alternate weeks. We don’t know at this time what the format will be as far as competition goes, but Brad will be letting us know shortly.

Another Update for 2008

Hello Again:

This will be short and sweet.  New belt and new pants both a size smaller.  A thinner me — about 15 lbs at this time.  A better swing.  Next lesson in March.

See ya on the back nine!

An update for 2008!

Hello again:

I have lost a total of 11.3 lbs.  My color looks better, my face looks thinner, and folks can tell I am getting results. Another thing I noticed was I can pinch about 1/2 inch gap between my waist and pants to make them fit the way I like.  I think that means I will be needing new pants at a smaller size soon. My belt is at the smallest hole and I can move the belt past that.Another thing I have noticed is I have more endurance. The first time I was on the exercise bike, I struggled to get 16 minutes on level 1. On monday I rode for 40 minutes with 36 of them on level 5 and 4 on level 4. I have more flexibility than ever before. See ya on the back nine!

Looking forward to a great 2008

Hello Again everyone.  It is time for the first post of 2008.  The company started its biggest loser progran and contest.  At the beginning, I weighed 235.5 lbs and had a 47.1 BMI.  After a week I am down 7.1 lbs and have increased my aerobic exercise time from 16 minutes on the bike to 22 minutes.  I feel much better.  I am eating much better and things are looking up.A few days ago, we had some really unseasonably warm weather in Ohio for January.  It was almost 70 degrees.  I went to the driving range at Mentel and hit a large bucket of balls with my new Wilson Pro Staff clubs.  They felt good and I seemed to be hitting them pretty well.

In addition I got some golf lessons for Christmass as well as some new golfing clothes.  I have a lesson on 1/12/2008 with Todd and am looking forward to it.  I did take a lesson in October, November, and December so I have one left in that group of four and I got a group of 4 for Christmas.

I am also looking forward to the Golf league and outing this year.  I am also looking forward to going down to Myrtle in May and playing in a tourney down there.

See ya on the back nine!

Golf Outing and Picnic

Hello!  A funny thing happened on the way to the golf outing.  Our dog decided to get sick and my wife decided to stay home.  So, I hopped into my car and drove to Deer Creek State Park by myself.  When I arrived at the course and went to check in and tell the folks about Patty not being there, one of the folks there told me a team was short one player and I could join them if I wanted.  When the team captain happened to be Brad my golf league partner, I decided to join up with him and his two friends.  Unlike the Golf league where there is a contest between two golfers of either A or B flight, this was a scramble where every body hit and the team picked the best shot.  Everyone else picked up their balls and went to the shot selected and hit again.  This process repeated until the ball was in the hole.  Well, the four of us shot a very nice round of 2 under par.   That round tied us for second place sincs the team of Geno, his brother in law and 2 of their friends shot an amazing round of 7 under par to finish in first place.  Brad’s team finished second and I got to bring home a trophy and some prizes. After golf, everyone met at the dining area where a wonderful cater meal waited.  After eating and drinking our fill, the trophies and other prizes were handed out and the party continued full force into late in the evening.  As usual, everyone had a wonderful time.

Golf Outing and Picnic

This Saturday, June 30, 2007, will be the annual Golf Outing and Picnic where I work.  This will be my fourth one.  Last year, my wife — Patty–, Bill — from the golf league–, Mike — Our AFLAC rep — and I were the winning team.  While the 4 of us will not be on the same team, we each are attempting to do something never done at this outing — repeat as a member of the winning team. The Golf Outing aka The Jeff Beal Memorial is a best ball 4 person scramble named after the late Jeff Beal.  Jeff, better known among his friends and co-workers as Jazzy, was the head of our fraud team when I first came to work at this company.  He loved golf and played as much as he could.  Jeff died from complications after a motorcycle accident.  Loved by all and a friend to all, it is completely fitting to name the outing after him. The Jeff Beal Memorial will be played at the golf course at Deer Creek State Park in Mt. Sterling, Ohio — a small town about 45 miles southwest of Columbus.  Since this the the 3rd year the event will be at Deer Creek, I do know a little bit about the course and as I promised I would give a review of the course. Deer Creek is a par 72 course of 6605 yards from the white tees, a course rating of 71.2 from the white tees, and a slope rating of 113 from the white tees.  The front nine is 5 yards longer than the back and each nine has 2 par threes, 2 par fives, and 5 par fours.  The longest hole on the course is the 548 yard par 5 ninth hole while the shortest hole is the par three 152 yard eighth hole.  Most of the holes are dog legs.  There are a good number of bunkers both green side and fairway and water in the form of ponds.  The course is excellently maintained and there are distance discs placed in the fairway at 100 yards (red), 150 yards (white), and 200 yards (blue).  The course has 4 tee boxes — Blue, White, Yellow and Red.  There is also a driving range, putting greens and a couple of practice bunkers on the range.
