Hello Folks:
I shot a 55 on the front nine at Thornapple. The course was wet and played rather long. I had one par on the day. The forecast is calling for rain tomorrow.
This week is Masters week. Tiger is of course the favorite this week. Reports from Augusta National is the course is wet and playing long.
See ya on the back nine!

Hello Gang:
For those of you who are not golfers, this may come as a suprise but the golf league begins on April 2, 2008 if the weather cooperates. We will return to Thornaplle Country Club for the 3rd year for what I like to call the “Tour”. Each week we will play 9 holes rotating from the front nine to the back nine on alternate weeks. We don’t know at this time what the format will be as far as competition goes, but Brad will be letting us know shortly.

Hello Again:
This will be short and sweet. New belt and new pants both a size smaller. A thinner me — about 15 lbs at this time. A better swing. Next lesson in March.
See ya on the back nine!

The Golf Channel web site runs a recurring article entitled What’s in the Bag? in which it tells you what LPGA and PGA players like Brittany Lancicome and Phil Mickleson carried in their bags when they won an event. So as not to be outdone, I have decided to tell you what is in my bag. First, the newest thing in my bag is my bag. My bag is a Viper cart bag with 14 separate dividers and an attached 15th place for a putter or whatever else. The bag has about 10 pockets and a 2 or 3 can cooler built into it. Those who know me will say I am cheap but I prefer the term frugal. I got the bag in a sale where the store selling it had already marked it down once for clearance. This bag was $90.00 and had been marked down to $62.50 and Meijers was running an additional 40% off any sporting goods item in the clearance section. I got it for $40.00. As I said before — frugal.
Now that we have talked about my bag, I guess we should talk about what is in it. I have a bunch of tees. Most of those came in a bunch of balls I bought on sale. I also have some brush tees from Walmart.
As far as balls go, I have Precept balls in high visibility orange. I also have a bunch of balls I got free for going to Advantage Club events at my local Golf Galaxy Store such as Srixon balls.
The driver I have is a Dunlop10 degree driver with a graphite shaft I bought last year at Walmart for a whopping $39.99. It has not been re-gripped.
My fairway woods are a Cougar II 3 wood and 5 wood that I bought 20+ years ago when metal woods first came out.
My irons are a mixed bag. Most of them are Palmer Tru-Matic blade irons which I bought at the same time I bought my fairway woods. I have the 3, 4, 7, and 8 irons from that set. My 5, 6, and 9 irons are all made by different companies and bought to replace lost or broken clubs from the Palmer set. They are all used and none cost more than $15.00
I have 4 wedges. My pitching wedge was bought this last year after leaving my Palmer wedge next to the green on another course. My sand wedge was bought at Walmart 2 years ago because I needed one. I think it cost $14.99 I have 2 Ram FX wedges that I bought last year in Myrtle beach for $19.99 each. Frugal, right?
My putter is about 19 years old bought about a year after I bought most of my irons and woods. It is a PGA mallet putter and still has the original grip on it.
The woods and the irons have all been regripped with Golf Pride ladies tour wrap grips.
I have a pair of Foot Joy Golf shoes which cost me more than my bag did.
Now, if you counted really closely, you would know there are 15 clubs in my page. 15 is one more than the USGA rules allow in competitive rounds. Do I cheat you ask? No. I pull a club depending on what course I play. For example, I played the front 9 at ThornApple yesterday and did not carry the 3 wood. I used a 5 wood to hit tee shots at the 2 175 yard par 3’s. Both of the Par 5’s on ThornApple were the shorter 5’s and I didn’t hit a fairway wood on either of those. Next week when I play the back 9, I will probably carry the 3 and not the 5 due to the length of the par 3’s and par 5’s.
Frugal, right? You can say it. I know you can!

With the wind gusting to nearly 40 mph at times, Brittany Lincicome shot a par round and wound up in the winner’s circle at the 2007 Ginn Open for her second LPGA victory. Congratulations Brittany!
